Portale defends accidental nature of kayak accident in Graswald murder case

A recent article published in the New York Times reported on a number of different kayaking mistakes that Angelika Graswald and her missing fiancĂ©, Vincent Viafore, made the day that Viafore disappeared while the two were kayaking on the Hudson River. The list of mistakes includes the fact that neither were wearing wet or dry suits to help protect them against cold water temperatures, that Mr. Viafore was not wearing a life jacket, and that the kayaks the two were using were not suited to conditions on the Hudson. While police have charged Graswald with second degree murder in connection to Viafore’s disappearance and have accused her of intentionally tampering with Viafore’s kayak, her attorney, Richard Portale, defends that what happened on the Hudson the day Viafore disappeared was truly just an accident.
